Partners in Crime: The Artist, The Collector, The Curator, and The Museum Director
Pipilotti Rist, Han Nefkens, Claudia Segura, and Sjarel Ex in Conversation
Friday, December 19, 2014, 6–7.30pm
Hosted by SALT Galata
collectorspace is very pleased to organize a conversation among Pipilotti Rist, Han Nefkens, Sjarel Ex, and Claudia Segura. The talk is held in conjunction with the exhibition Cinquante Fifty from the Han Nefkens H+F Collection curated by Segura. Rist’s Cinquante Fifty (2000) is on long-term loan at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
What are the motivations of building a contemporary art collection for a private individual and a public institution—how could these motivations be aligned? What role do collectors play in what is shown in a public museum? How could artists, curators, collectors and institutional decision-makers collaborate in bringing artworks from the artist’s studio into the public domain? Taking their cue from these questions, the participants will explore the ongoing working relationship among the four different actors who are involved in collection building.
The exhibition Cinquante Fifty from the Han Nefkens H+F Collection runs through February 14, 2015. For more information, please see the link.
